Free Replacements are Available for Badly Printed 3.0 User's Guides

(Updated August 26, 2002.) We're sorry to report that the print quality of the first batch of Wenlin 3.0 User's Guide books was unacceptable, far inferior to the 1.0 and 2.0 books. We shipped copies of 3.0 with the poorly-printed books to some customers and resellers in late July and early August, 2002.

In late August, we received a second batch from the factory, with better books, and we have stopped shipping the inferior ones. If you received one of the badly printed books, at your request we will replace it free of charge.

You can quickly recognize the "bad books" by looking at the page numbers, which are about one inch from the bottom corner of each page. In the "good books", the page numbers are less than half an inch from the bottom corner.

The quality problem involves these defects: (1) a reduction in text/image size to about 83% of the original, with a corresponding increase in the margins; (2) extremely low resolution, more like a fax than a laser printer; (3) illegible Chinese characters, with thin horizontal strokes that have become invisible (maybe a combined effect of the reduced size and low resolution); (4) distorted screen shots, with (what should be) solid grey areas turned into Scottish tartans.

Wenlin Institute takes very seriously the importance of a legible, understandable, comprehensive user's guide, and we intend that this 248-page book should actually be pleasant to read. We apologize for the manufacturing defect, and promise to make up for it to the best of our ability.
