The handwriting recognition window (activated with the "brush" tool) can now be made larger or smaller by dragging on its outer edge.
The bitmap font has been augmented to include all of the Unicode Chinese characters. This only affects some very uncommon characters that are missing from the font in version 2.0.
Two new file formats, GBK and Big5+ (Big Five Plus), are now supported: GBK is an extension of GB, and Big5+ is an extension of Big5. While still compatible with existing GB and Big5 files, GBK and Big5+ both include all the Chinese characters (both simple and full form) that are in Unicode. However, for compatibility with other software programs that may not support the extensions yet, you may still need to use only simple form characters when saving in GBK format, and only full form characters when saving in Big5+ format. We still recommend using Unicode whenever possible.
A few bugs have been fixed, including "Print Error -39" which occurred on some MS-Windows systems, and a problem with Apple Chinese Language Kit fonts on some Macintosh systems. On all systems, the number of homophones for multi-syllable words displayed in the conversion bar was unnecessarily limited to ten. The file FAYIN.PIN (mentioned on page 173 of the User's Guide) was missing. The files BOPOMOFO and DAITU.HAN both had a few errors. These errors are corrected in Wenlin 2.1.
Other than the improvements just mentioned, the documentation for 2.1 remains the same as for 2.0.
A more recent version than 2.1 is now available and it includes all the improvements in 2.1 plus more. Licensed users of Wenlin 2.0 or later may download the files needed to update, free of charge, by going to the update page.
