If you have not already installed Wenlin on your computer's hard drive, do so before downloading the update file, so that there will be a Wenlin 2 Folder on your hard drive to contain the changed files. (To install Wenlin 2.0 or 2.1 on your hard drive, run it from the CD-ROM and choose Install from the File menu.)
It might help you to print out these instructions for convenient reference. The 2.6 update works differently from earlier updates, since quite a few people had difficulties with those. The new method should be easier and less susceptible to Murphy's Law, but is still not likely to succeed unless you follow these instructions.
Assuming Wenlin 2.0 or later is already installed on your hard drive, quit Wenlin if it is running. Then use the link below to download the update file. Your browser should give you the option of saving the file on your hard drive. Please PAY CAREFUL ATTENTION to the LOCATION where you save the file! Save it in your Wenlin 2 Folder where Wenlin is already installed. If your browser automatically puts it somewhere else, such as the Desktop, then you must manually move it into the Wenlin 2 Folder.
It's likely that your Web browser will un-Bin-Hex it for you (otherwise you may need a utility such as Compact Pro or Stuffit to un-Bin-Hex it), to produce the Self Extracting Archive file called Wenlin 2.6.sea, which also belongs inside the Wenlin 2 Folder. When you double-click on Wenlin 2.6.sea, make sure the correct destination folder (Wenlin 2 Folder) is shown, then choose "Extract". It will then create the new application file Wenlin 2.6, and a file named WU26.ASC. The two files Wenlin 2.6 and WU26.ASC need to be in the Wenlin 2 Folder. Once you have those two files, you can (optionally) delete Wenlin 2.6.sea and WL26SEA.HQX.
I am already a licensed user of Wenlin 2.0 or later: download the Macintosh update for Wenlin 2.6.
Please send us an e-mail to let us know you've updated.
The first time you run the new Wenlin 2.6, it will automatically detect the presence of WU26.ASC, and extract the necessary files to complete the update (five text files and one binary file, listed below). It will say "Update successfully completed" and the opening screen will show the version number 2.6.
The files that will be created or replaced are as follows:
